"Le Cesine" Natural Reserve and Porto Cesareo (Le) It is an area of ​​great beauty and variety, characterized by the presence of a rich vegetation and a varied fauna and migratory, which is one of utltimi stretches of coastal marshes that stretched between Brindisi and Otranto. Although predominantly a wetland, includes a wide variety of environments and transition bands: large expanses of reeds (between the reed stand out the chromatic notes of iris yellow and purple orchids), numerous channels, features a swamp , two ponds and marshes Pantano Grande and Salapi, separated from the sea by a strip of sand dunes colonized by marine rocket, salsola and sea bindweed, juniper, sea holly and sea lily. The other environments that characterize the reserve are the pine forest, the Mediterranean, the holm oak and crops.
Being located on one of the most important migratory routes of the Mediterranean, the area is frequented by many species of birds, such as mallards, pintails, wigeon, shelduck, smergi, tufted ducks, herons (heron, red and white egret), egrets, spoonbills , hawks, terns, bitterns and knights of Italy.
